Once there is devotion and a gentle disposition, we can develop the third treasure of sharing, or generosity. We share ourselves in the form of loving-kindness, compassion, understanding and truth. Externally we may share our belongings, food, or wealth. In order to help others while not neglecting ourselves, whatever we do must be guided by skilful means and wisdom. If there is something you feel like sharing that is going to help two people and hurt two hundred, then maybe you'd better think again, but offerings made in love, which actually create happiness and joy for sentient beings are very, very important. The moment this kind of offering is shared, it begins to increase.
