The first treasure is interest or devotion. Devotion is one's heart connection to dharma practice; the endeavor to discover the buddha nature in oneself and to bless all beings with the revelation of its wondrous qualities. Without this, there is no way to progress in our practice. Like the first light of dawn, sincere interest in the teachings is the first step toward opening our awareness to the truth of enlightenment.
